It’s a very inspiring sight to see cars lined up dropping off cash and checks, kids pulling wagons full of food, others carrying frozen turkeys in each hand, and volunteers from Second Harvest food bank working hard to collect everything.

I’ve made this an annual event to take my daughter with me to collect food to donate to the local food bank. And as always, YOU (my customers) have responded the last couple years by leaving out your donations for me to pick up.

I know it’s a hassle to drop off a donation so if you have any canned goods or frozen turkeys you can donate, I can pick up your donation when we visit your house and deliver it to the 2nd Harvest Food Bank for you.

I will be loading up my truck with your donations as we visit your house on either Mon, Tues, or Wed of Thanksgiving week. We can take canned goods, frozen turkeys, or checks made out to “Loaves and Fishes”. My daughter and I will drop everything off with Second Harvest Wednesday afternoon before Thanksgiving.

Please let me know if you can participate by calling me or sending an email so I know to look for your donation when we are at your house the week of Thanksgiving.

Thank you, and I hope you have an incredible holiday season this year.

I got involved with this organization through one of my customers that sponsors this event. This is an excellent organization that provides support to the athletic coaches in our region. Coaches have a tremendous impact on the kids they guide and are often under a lot of pressure to perform. Coaches who attend a CTO conference learn practical tools so they are equipped to instill positive core values, build character, and positively influence the kids that they coach.

CTO is holding a local conference in Charlotte this month. If you would like to get involved, please visit the website or email Leslie Estep at jlestep1@hotmail.com.

In addition to Dennis serving our country overseas, the family that stays behind makes a lot of sacrifices. I ended up with a nice pickup truck load of food that included 8 frozen turkeys and about 20 bags of canned goods. Thanks to everyone who gave.

11/17/2009

I hope you are enjoying the Fall and gearing up for the holidays like I am. The leaves are coming down fast and early this year so we are keeping busy.

Because I spend a lot of time in the truck during the day, I absorb quite a bit of local talk radio. Mark Packer has been doing a show on the local sports talk show (Primetime with the Packman) for many years now. I have a lot of respect for Mark as I have seen him rise to one of the most publicly active contributors to our community.

One of his projects, Street Turkeys, has raised over $300,000, collected over 5000 frozen turkeys, and 15,000 lbs of canned goods to stock local food banks in the Carolinas during the holiday season since Mark started this in 2002.

Every year on the day before Thanksgiving, listeners of WFNZ make their way to the Doghouse on the corner of Mint and Morehead to drop off donations. It’s a very inspiring sight to see cars lined up dropping off checks, kids pulling wagons full of food, and others carrying frozen turkeys in each hand, and volunteers from Second Harvest food bank working hard.

I took my little girl last year to drop off some canned goods and I have to tell you, knowing we helped feed a hungry family in the Carolinas made my Thanksgiving dinner taste a little better the next day.

I know it’s a hassle to get uptown to drop off a donation so if you have any canned goods or frozen turkeys you can donate, I can pick up your donation when we visit your house next week and deliver it to the Doghouse for you.

The event is next Wednesday 11/25, and I will be loading up my truck with your donations as we visit your house on either Mon, Tues, or Wed of next week. We can take canned goods, frozen turkeys, or checks made out to “Fishes and Loaves”.

Please let me know if you can participate by calling me or sending an email so I know to look for your donation when we are at your house next week.

You can check out the WFNZ.com website for more information on the event.

Thank you, and I hope you have an incredible holiday season this year.
